As if things weren’t crazy enough, we are tentatively planning to move in the next month or two. This wasn’t an expected move and we wouldn’t typically choose to do this while Brian is doing chemo, but it’s a move we need to make. The good news? We’re not moving far. In fact, we’re just moving to a different unit in our apartment complex.

So why, you ask, are we moving if we’re staying in the same apartment complex? Well, let me make a long story short….we re-signed our apartment lease at the end of May and that very same week (or super close to the same time), we had new neighbors move in below us. Not a big deal, right? WRONG. Our neighbors downstairs are chain smokers. Had we known even a week or two before our lease was up, we wouldn’t have renewed it. I can honestly count the number of times I’ve seen them without a cigarette on one hand. Seriously, it’s awful. And really, I have no problem with people who smoke, but it just gets tricky when we prefer not to smoke and the smell comes through the floor and our vents.WE JUST CAN’T GET AWAY FROM IT!!! We’ve called the apartment offices a few times and they’ve installed UV filters in our vents, we’ve bought our own air purifier, and those things just can’t keep up with the smoke.

We’ve thought about just dealing with it until our lease runs out, but that isn’t until the end of June. That’s 9 months! Not only is all of our stuff going to smell like smoke, but honestly, I don’t think EITHER of us need to be inhaling smoke for a year….ESPECIALLY Brian! We don’t need lung cancer on top of everything!

Since the apartment complex won’t let us out of our lease, they’re letting us move to another unit in hopes that it will be better than where we’re at right now. We really tried putting this off as long as possible…just thinking about packing, moving, unpacking, and switching all of our utilities and mail, etc seems like a nightmare to do right now. But really, at this point, I don’t consider it an option to stay where we’re at for another 9 months.

We haven’t worked out all of the details yet, our apartment office is working on finding us a different unit…but as soon as we find out, we will be moving. I’ll probably start packing as soon as I find out that it’s a done deal that we can move. Oh joy!

We’ll keep you in the loop… πŸ™‚

  1. Oh man, I’m sorry you are moving in the midst of Brian’s treatments! Stress! But I’m thankful you are able to get him away from the smokiness… I totally understand the frustrations of living communally (we are in a condo) and how you can’t control those around you. 😦 Hoping you love the new unit and the move is an easy one.

    • Nick, thanks so much for your encouraging blog comments means a lot. I’m still figuring out all of I’m thankful that Bri has friends who can still show me the ropes. πŸ™‚ thanks again.
